DCA Busts Unlicensed Unit Manufacturing Glycoril Cough Syrup

Hyderabad: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, busted the unlicensed manufacturing of the product Glycoril cough syrup (Terbutaline Sulphate, Ambroxol HCl, Guaiphenesin & Menthol Syrup) at the manufacturing unit Akhil Life Sciences, located in Prashanth Nagar, IDA, Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, and seized stocks worth Rs 65,000 during the raid. Akhil Life Sciences was engaged in the unauthorised manufacturing of Glycoril cough syrup without the requisite drug license for the product.
Acting on gathered intelligence, officials from the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana conducted a raid on the drug manufacturing unit named Akhil Life Sciences, located at Plot No. 20, 1st Floor, Prashanth Nagar, IDA, Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, on August 9. During the raid, officers detected the unlicensed manufacturing of the drug ‘Glycoril Cough Syrup’ (Terbutaline Sulphate, Ambroxol HCl, Guaiphenesin & Menthol Syrup). The product ‘Glycoril Cough Syrup’ shall be manufactured only under a drug manufacturing license issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, in accordance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The manufacturing process shall adhere to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) prescribed under Schedule M of the Drugs Rules and meet the quality standards mandated by the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP).
During the raid, DCA officials seized 635 bottles of 100 ml each of Glycoril Cough Syrup (Terbutaline Sulphate, Ambroxol HCl, Guaiphenesin & Menthol Syrup), Batch No. ATG 401, Mfg. Date: 09/2024, Exp. Date: 08/2026, Mfg. Lic. No.: 8/RR/TS/2016/F/G, manufactured by Akhil Life Sciences, located at Plot No. 20, 1st Floor, Prashanth Nagar, IDA, Kukatpally, Hyderabad – 500072, and marketed by Gamy Pharmaceuticals, located at Flat No. 7, My Enclave, Sai Colony Extension Belethur, Kadugodi, Bangalore – 560 067. The officials also seized printed labels of the product from the possession of C. Bhaskar Reddy, Proprietor of Akhil Life Sciences, for manufacturing the drug without a valid manufacturing license. The total worth of the seized stocks was Rs 65,000.
M Sreebindu, Drugs Inspector, Prashanth Nagar and N Sahaja, Drugs Inspector, Kukatpally, were among the officers, who carried out the raid. Samples were collected for analysis during the raid. Drugs manufactured without a drug license may fail to meet the quality standards prescribed in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) and the Drugs Rules, 1945. Such products can have serious implications for patients health. Manufacturing and selling drugs without a valid drug manufacturing license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment of up to five years.
